The BBC moved today to fill the final TV presenting vacancy left by Adrian Chiles's departure to ITV, appointing Dara O'Briain as his replacement to host The Apprentice: You're Fired. O'Briain will front the spin-off show when it returns to BBC2 later this year.
Mock the Week presenter Dara O'Briain Chiles quit the BBC in April for ITV, after Chris Evans was hired to front The One Show on Fridays. He will front GMTV and host ITV1's football World Cup coverage, which starts today with live coverage of the first match, in which hosts South Africa take on Mexico. Jason Manford is replacing Chiles as co-presenter of The One Show Monday to Thursday, while the BBC appointed Colin Murray to take his place on Match of the Day 2. Christine Bleakley, Chiles's co-presenter on The One Show, had been linked with a possible move to ITV to join Chiles on the GMTV sofa. However, Bleakley told the Daily Mirror yesterday that she is "staying put, absolutely" and is expected to sign a new deal to continue working on The One Show, as well as hosting a new Saturday-night programme and being part of the BBC's 2012 Olympics presenting team. O'Briain hosts BBC2's topical panel show Mock the Week and regularly appears on BBC1's QI and Radio 4's Just a Minute.
